Audiobooks: Self Care for Teachers

Audiobooks might be the perfect indulgence for you.

It’s a great option for self care.

As a primary teacher, you spend your days: planning, teaching all the subjects, and keeping everyone focused and happy…while using all of your energy.

Counting down to winter break is the light at the end of the long hallway (oops, think tunnel). You deserve more than vegging out on the couch watching reruns.

Audible by Amazon makes it so easy.

Imagine curling up under a cuddly soft blanket, warm drink in hand.

(I’ll have a hot chocolate… but it’s ok to read wine or your preferred beverage.)

Calm takes over and your mind settles as a voice begins to read a story just for you.

Audiobooks are the perfect read aloud for overwhelmed 1st grade teachers.

Unwind, refill your mental energy, and enjoy a little “me time” without adding another task to your plate.

Give yourself a much-needed brain break as you
  • drive to visit family
  • admire the twinkling lights on your tree
  • soak in a tub until your fingertips get pruney
  • or even fold the mountain of laundry you finally had time to wash.

Turn small pockets of time (or your entire day)
into a quiet, peaceful escape for yourself.

The Magic of Audiobooks for Busy, Tired Teachers

Audiobooks are the ultimate self-care

and as a teacher you’ll appreciate the low-prep ease of them.

No driving to the bookstore or library.

No worrying about returning by the due date.

It is your turn to sit and relax, letting someone else read to you.

Holiday Themed Audiobooks

If you prefer Hallmark-style holiday romances, just wait until you hear the heartwarming stories read by a soothing voice.

Perfect for decompressing, seasonal reads will pamper you. I’m looking forward to reading a holiday themed book written by Debbie Macomber. She puts one out almost every year!

A historical fiction novel unfolds events which may have inspired Charles Dickens to write his famous book, A Christmas Carol. This audiobook will get you in the mood for the holiday season.

Keep the Relaxation Going Into the New Year

An easy New Years resolution for you to keep is building an audiobook habit.

Listen and have a calm morning, unwind for a peaceful evening, or enjoy an intentional downtime before drifting off to sleep.

Take pleasure in all the popular trending stories that everyone else is talking about.

Audiobook Suggestions from this Teacher

I enjoyed listening to this one on a long trip in the car. My husband listened to his country music on the radio and would look over at me wearing my headphones every time I laughed at something happening between the characters in the book. Enjoy the story too.

Although I haven’t read any of her books (yet!), books written by Freida McFadden are very highly recommended by a teacher friend. She’s on my list of audiobooks for the new year.

Shari Lapena writes mysteries in which almost everyone seems to be a suspect. You won’t want to stop listening to her audiobooks. What Have You Done? was the first book I enjoyed from this author.

If you binge watched the episodes of Bridgerton and can’t wait until the next season drops, enjoy listening to the audiobooks.

If nonfiction is more to your liking, try James Clear’s book, Atomic Habits.

This book looks at ways little changes can make a big impact.  Build some habits into your own life and see what might happen.

Low Prep Teacher Pampering

Whether you are a romantic, devour the twists and turns of a mystery, or crave the knowledge of nonfiction, audiobooks let you access them all.
